The Safest Thing to Do Is Stay Home

You likely didn't want to hear that, but it's true. The safest thing to do this year is to stay home. While the holidays are the perfect time to surround yourself with friends and family, this year is a bit different. It may be in everyone's best interest to stay home and enjoy a holiday meal together over Zoom or FaceTime. This is especially true if you're someone who is more susceptible to COVID-19. Don't risk contracting it or transmitting it to someone in your family that is immunocompromised. Stay safe and stay home!

Get Tested for COVID-19 Before You Go Anywhere

This should go without saying, but you should be tested before you plan on going anywhere. You should even take things a step further and try to quarantine as best you can before your trip. Remember, a negative COVID-19 test doesn't always mean you don't have the virus. So don't get the negative result and run with it. You still should practice all necessary precautions.

Research the Number of Coronavirus Cases of Where You're Visiting

Your family may be safe, but how bad are the cases where they reside? If there are quite a few and that number seems to be growing exponentially, it may be best to stay home. If the cases have been going down or remaining stagnant, you should be okay to visit. Though you will need to be extra cautious no matter where you go.

Be Extra Cautious When Traveling

Like we mentioned above, you'll want to be cautious when traveling. Wear your mask, keep your distance, pack extra masks, bring hand sanitizer, go all out. Traveling during the pandemic isn't all that safe. And even when you exercise these precautions, that doesn't mean you're protected from getting the virus. Do what you can and don't be afraid to rock the hazmat suit if that would make you feel more comfortable.

Traveling by Car May Be Safer

Air travel is often the go-to during the holidays, but traveling by car may be slightly safer in terms of limiting your exposure. If you're able to drive, do it. You'll be with those in your immediate household and won't really come in contact with strangers, like you would at the airport.

Take Precautions When You Arrive to Your Destination

As ready as you may be to hug your family members and get extra close and personal with them, it may be safest to show some restraint. Though you may not have the virus and know your safe, there's no way to guarantee they've been taking the necessary precautions. Keep your distance as best you can from all your relatives you can't account for. It won't be easy or ideal, but it is necessary to ensure the safety of everyone in your family.
