America's Most Epic Road Trips

Road trips are one of the most underrated summer activities.

While they can take a lot of energy to plan and participate in, they are a fantastic way to see parts of the country you don't always get to enjoy. And with COVID-19 impacting our summertime adventures, they're a safer way to explore the world around you.

We wanted to offer some road trip inspiration, if you're thinking about hitting the open road, by sharing America's most epic road trips. Check them out below!

Pacific Coast Highway

Pacific Coast Highway is one of the most talked about road trips quite possibly ever. Once anyone does this drive, they never stop talking about how stunning it is. The 123-mile long drive will take you from San Francisco to Los Angeles. Given its ocean views, the best time to embark on this road trip would be during the spring or summer.

Historic Route 66

We've all heard about Historic Route 66, so why not actually drive through it? It stretches all the way from Chicago to California, though you can ride it for as long as you deem fit. There are plenty of historic stops on this road, so be sure you have enough storage space in your phone for all the photos you'll definitely take.

The Blue Ridge Parkway

Running through Virginia and North Carolina, this picturesque ride takes you through the Great Smoky Mountains and Shenandoah national parks. Every twist and turn offers a view of the most unbelievable nature backdrops. Road tripping during the fall is an excellent time, that way you can appreciate the changing leaves even more.

Tail of the Dragon

While still incredibly scenic, that isn't exactly what Tail of the Dragon is known for. It boasts 318 curves in 11 miles. You'll see a ton of motorcyclists enjoying this intense road, weaving and winding through the Great Smoky Mountains and the Cherokee National Forest.

Route 12

Stretching 124 miles through the great state of Utah, Route 12 gives you the opportunity to explore Capitol Reef National Park and Bryce Canyon National Park. Finding it is known to be a little bit tricky, but it's worth the extra bit of research.

Highway 101

If you've already experienced PCH, Highway 101 in Oregon is the drive for you. Enjoy unobstructed views for 300 miles along the Oregon coast. It really is a drive unlike any other.

Ocean Drive

Ocean Drive in Rhode Island is only 10 miles long, which is significantly less than the other drives on this list. While it may not constitute a road trip for some, we still think it counts. And it's perfect for those who don't have the time for a cross-country adventure.

Overseas Highway

From the picture alone you're likely already intrigued by this stretch of highway. You'll go from Miami to Key West on this 127-mile long road and get spectacular views of the ocean. It practically feels like you're driving on the water.

Great River Road

In total, this road trip stretches 2,000 miles along the Mississippi River, which is essentially from start to finish. Everyone who has enjoyed this trip swears the best stretch takes you from Memphis to New Orleans. You'll understand the magic once you experience it yourself.

Turquoise Trail National Scenic Byway

Running from Albuquerque to Taos, New Mexico, the Turquoise Trail National Scenic Byway offers plenty of history and color. From ancient Indian pueblos to art galleries, you'll want to spend a lot of time enjoying everything this byway has to offer.
